CHARLOTTE (AP) — There's no shortage of stars at the Wachovia Championship that tees off this morning at the Quail Hollow course in Charlotte.
Tiger Woods, defending champion Jim Furyk and Phil Mickelson are among 27 of the top 30 players in the world taking part.
Woods played in the pro-am yesterday with Michael Jordan, part owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. Sergio Garcia played with Super Bowl MVP Peyton Manning.
Woods likes the course, saying players have to shape the ball both ways and must be able to putt.
The $6.3 million purse is one of the richest for the regular PGA Tour.
The tree-lined course closes with a 217-yard par three to a peninsula green that breaks toward a lake. The 18th is 478 yards with a bunker and trees to the right, and a small stream that winds down the left side.
