BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) -– The court cases of former Boiling Spring Lakes Police Chief Emmett Ballree and his son Michael have been continued.

Emmett Ballree was scheduled to appear in Brunswick County Court Monday on charges of aiding and abetting. Michael Ballree was also scheduled to appear on charges of possession of a firearm by a felon. Both cases were granted a continuance until June 3.

According to an indictment issued in August 2012, back in September 2011, Michael Ballree had a Heckler-Koch UMP .45 caliber automatic weapon. The indictment says the younger Ballree was convicted of felony possession of a stolen firearm in Wayne County in 2004.

The indictment says Emmett Ballree aided and abetted his son to possess the gun despite knowing that Michael had the conviction on his record.
