WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — For the second time since taking over as CEO of the Wilmington Housing Authority, Michael Krause has been arrested for DWI.

Wilmington Police spokeswoman Linda Rawley says an officer pulled Krause over in the 700 block of Windemere Road yesterday at 4:28 p.m. Rawley said Krause was also cited for having no operator’s license.

Krause started working at WHA in 2008. In 2009 he was charged with DWI. He later pleaded guilty and was fined and sentenced to 24 hours community service.

An assistant said Krause was out of the office this week and would not be back until later this week. She said his absence was previously scheduled.

WHA Board member Jeff Hovis said this afternoon Krause asked for a leave of absence beyond what was already scheduled. He also said the WHA will hold a special meeting soon to discuss the matter. He said by law they must give a 48-hour public notice before holding that meeting.

Once burned, shame on you. Twice burned, shame on me.

Mr. Kraus has an obvious alcohol impairment problem and the Wilmington Housing Authority Board members have an obvious good judgment impairment problem.

It’s beyond obvious that all of them should go.

Too bad the obvious doesn’t happen very often around here. That too has become obvious.

He will get fired and then sue because he has a disease. lol What a lowlife.

He just needs Time Off to drink…and I mean really tie one on after this fiasco!

Do ALL high ranking people around here have melt-downs? Is it the salt air, or what? This guy came from Ohio in 2008. My first impression of his demeanor was not favorable and everyone wondered WHO he knew to get the job.

ONCE AGAIN, it is standard procedure to recruit OUT OF STATE for these positions and IGNORE Qualified candidates who know the local City/County/Housing and Demographics.

ALL the goofballs who sat in on this guys employment committee should be FIRED. He lasted a year before he drank himself silly and GOT BEHIND THE FREAKING STEERING WHEEL of an AUTOMOBILE and could have KILLED one of our LOVED ONES.

I’m dead tired of forgiving and forgetting. This is ridiculous. WHERE is the INTEGRITY?

Oh yes, it is within the candidates who are PASSED OVER!

If you were in charge of the Cape of Fear area…wouldn’t you?

This town is a JOKE!!! Depending on who you are, determines the punishment …How does this guy continue to get away with this Russian Roulette Crime …

He obviously has no respect for authority. Let’s see, 2009 DUI, Ignition Interlock System placed in vehicle but was caught allowing someone else to blow for him, Driving while License revoked, and now another DUI!!!!

What’s the WPD waiting for??? When Krause’s luck finally runs out and he kills an innocent person the Blood will be on your hands!!!!

  • ranger1 says:

    Most likely!!!

  • ABNRGR says:

If only he had told the officer he was late for a council meeting he would have been let go!

  • Vog46 says:

Updates to the story indicate he was driving a Toyota 4 Runner. I believe this to be his personal vehicle. The incident also happened on a Sunday.
I guess I don’t want to believe he could be that stupid but ……..

Then again, with a BAC anywhere from 0.31 to 0.35 he really IS that stupid.
Like others here I wonder who served him THAT much booze. Hopefully he was at a private party as I can’t see any bartender locally letting someone get THAT bad……..
    He needs to go…….

  • SurfCityTom says:

he got a raise after the first; and there was no official rebuke.

does he drive a vehicle owned by WHA?

  • Wow Think says:

am i the only person that thinks its strange for the exec. director to be charged with a crime TWICE and still remain at the helm? The break that we give him aint even extended to the families who live in public housing. It seems like a alcohol problem. wonder if he comes to work intoxicated?

  • kzpony says:

No wonder that WHA housing is in such a lawless mess with shootings, drugs, and scared occupants if the CEO himself can’t follow the law….REPEATEDLY.

  • taxpayer says:

Krause blew a .23, and the Board of Directors gave him a raise AND a bonus for a “job well done.” Here we are 4 years later, his BAC, at this point, hasn’t been released. Regardless, Krause needs to be fired. Period. End of discussion.
