WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — According to shoppers on Black Friday if you’re not first, you could be last.
“I got out here at 11:45 AM,” said Michelle Shires, the first person in line at Target in Wilmington.
Many shoppers stood in line for hours hoping for the door-buster deal that they say will make their loved ones eyes light up like a Christmas tree.
The hot items on every shoppers list ranged from flat screen tv’s all the way to pajama pants.
For those of you waiting to brave the crowds shoppers shared a few tips for once you get in the doors.
“Don’t drink a lot and don’t eat a lot,” said Shires. “Dress very warm here and just be prepared to go fast.”
Other tips included bringing running shoes and a large group of friends to grab carts and carry bags to the car.
But once the door opens it’s every shopper for themselves in the race to get the big ticket items turning some shopping experiences from a winter wonderland into a nightmare before Christmas.
“A couple of years ago I was on the bottom of the pile that there was fights and threats of pepper spray,” said Shires.
For the competitive souls willing to brave the cold, the long lines, and sometimes outright rudeness the deal of the season awaits at the checkout.
“I love it, I love it,” said Shires. “You learn how to deal with it all, it’s great!”
