WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Kites that have traveled from all over the world filled the sky in Wrightsville Beach this weekend as the 9th Annual Cape Fear Kite festival was underway.
The event is November 8th & 9th from 10 – 4 pm at the Shell Island Resort.
Hundreds of people are expected to attend over the 2 day event.
There was more than just your average kites flying, ones all shapes, sizes, styles, and colors.
Event Organizer Michael Agner says his big passion for kites began in a small way.
“Our daughter bought us a little kite so I could fly it at the beach and so she could see us at the beach. The little kite got a little bit bigger and bigger, and I met some people that were into it and it just expanded from there,” Agner said.
This was the last event of a series of kite festivals throughout the year.
Agner say November is the perfect time of the year for the festival because of the less crowded beaches and the comfort weather.
He hopes to keep the festival coming back to the area in years to come.
