BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Brunswick County jury found Pierre Walker guilty of several charges including second degree murder Monday afternoon.
Walker was charged in the deadly crash on Highway 74/76 that happened near the county line on February 22, 2013. Walker was found guilty of second degree murder, felony death by motor vehicle, habitual DWI, reckless driving, hit and run, exceeding posed speed and driving while license revoked. Walker received 270-336 months in the North Carolina Department of Corrections for second degree murder and 31-47 months for habitual DWI, to run concurrent.
In that February crash, Martha Mintz was killed after Walker hit her head on. Walker had been in a previous traffic accident on that highway just before the crash. Nancy Dziadul, a witness to the crash, testified that she followed Walker for more than 20 minutes before he crossed the median and crashed into Mintz. According to the 911 call placed by Dziadul, Mintz was killed almost instantly.
“The driver in the PT Cruiser, this woman is deceased … She’s deceased. I have an EMT right here. He was the fella in the silver truck following,” Dziadul said in the call.
Walker had been in and out of jail and court before the crash. Over the last 10 years, Walker has faced 43 charges in New Hanover and Brunswick Counties, including three DWI charges.
