Death investigation underway in Masonboro area

MASONBORO, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a death that happened Monday.

Investigators found Daryl Joyner shot and killed at a home in the 6500 block of Myrtle Grove Road at around 7:20 p.m. Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Jerry Brewer says the homeowner was also involved, but no charges have been filed.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed today.

Brewer says the investigation continues.

    Exactly what happened? We as neighbors deserve to know.

    I was good friends with the guy that got killed. His family doesn’t even know the entirety of what happened yet. I hope WWAY will stay with the story. The shooter is claiming self defense. I have no idea how the situation unfolded but I know my friend didn’t own a gun and wasn’t naturally a violent person. Hopefully the police will take investigation seriously and all the facts will come to light.
