WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The 5th Annual Feast Down East Regional Conference was held at UNCW Friday.
Farmers, fishermen, chefs, local policy makers, and regulars consumers were all there with the goal of learning how to build a healthy and strong local food system.
Organizers says it’s important for people to know where your food comes from and how it is grown.
The Director Feast Down East Jane Steigerwald said by supporting local farmers it adds to the local economy.
“It’s a way of life. People are interested in health. They see the connection between their food and their health. It has a direct rate of childhood obesity,” said Steigerwald.
There will a fundraiser event called Raise the Barn on March 21st at the Poplar Grove Plantation.
The event will help support all of the programs held by Feast Down East.
