Some of the best racquetball players in the world will be in the Port City this weekend. The Wilmington Athletic Club is hosting a professional racquetball tournament for women.
The tour stop has over $13,000 of prize money up for grabs. The tournament features the top ranked woman in the world, Rhonda Rajsich.
“I know that last year racquetball was only one of four sports in this economy that didn't lose any participation,” said Rajsich. “It actually grew by 18% last year and it was only one of four sports in the world to do that. Other fitness fads came and went, but racquetball is obviously still around. We just need to re-introduce to the people who say, “I use to play”. Guess what? It's still around.”
Rhonda Rajsich won the U.S. Open Championship two weeks ago. She will be on center court Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Wilmington Athletic Club.
Racquetball matches will be held all night, with more action slated throughout the entire weekend. Matches are slated to conclude Sunday afternoon.
The event is free and open to the public.

Finals - Women Pro @ WAC
it was fun to to participate (sweat a little, eat good food and drink some good beer) in the "lower levels" of competition at the East Coast Fall Tournament. It was also inspiring to observe the women pros from the world here in Wilmington, NC. Particularly exciting was to observe and analyze the strokes of Paola, who won the competition. She dominated the game to win first place with what looked like perfect golf swings.
