Sharks Post Friday Night Win

READ MORE: Cape Fear Sports Report

Ryan Vander Tuig(San Jose State) breezed through eight innings allowing just three hits while shutting out the Penninsula Pilots 3-0 at the Tank Friday night.

A Cory Lyda(Presbyterian) solo home run, his second of the season, got the Sharks on the board in the second. Lyda ended the night 2-4. That run would prove to be enough but the Sharks still added two more. In the third Ryan Graepel(North Carolina) reached on an error and came home on a single off the bat of Hunter Owen(Milsaps College).

Still leading 2-0 in the sixth Bobby Leeper(UNC-WIlmington) lashed a double down the right field line to lead off the frame. After a single by Mike Alvarez(Florida Gulf Coast) moved him to third, Leeper came home on a Hunter ground ball.

With a little help from Chris Powell(Presbyterian) in the ninth, Vander Tuig would make the lead stand up. The six foot six right hander struck out just two but didn't issue a single walk to speed his way through eight and move his record to 3-1. Powell came in to close things out in the ninth getting a double play ball to end the game.

With thier second win in a row Wilmington moves to 19-23 on the Coastal Plain season. The Pilots fall to 23-18. The Sharks will play one more time before the CPL All Star break as they travel to Florence Saturday night to take on the Redwolves. -Courtesy Wilmington Sharks
