Former Hoggard Golfer Ryan Marquardt To Join Sea Devils

CFCC head golf coach Rick Stewart announced today,that Ryan Marquardt will sign a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to attend Cape Fear Community College and play collegiate golf for the Sea Devils. Marquardt, a Wilmington native, is a highly touted player and becomes the first member of Stewart’s 2008-09 recruiting class.

Marquardt is the first recipient of the newly established Jackson Beverage Company Student-Athlete Scholarship. Jackson Beverage established this scholarship to provide a full tuition and book scholarship to an area student athlete at CFCC.

“Ryan is the epitome of what I look for in a kid,” said Stewart. “He has demonstrated the ability to perform at a very high level throughout high school and conducts himself with professionalism everyday. He will prove to be a great asset to our program.”

Marquardt comes to CFCC with a very impressive high school resume. A four year starter at John T Hoggard High School, Ryan was honored as All-Conference three times, as well as runner up Player of the Year in
2007. He was also named to the High School All-American Team in 2007.

Marquardt has competed in Regional, National, and International Junior Tournaments recording 54 top 15 finishes, 33 top 5 finishes and brought home 9 medalists. Golfweek currently ranks Marquardt the 23rd best junior player in North Carolina.

“I am very excited to have the opportunity to compete with CFCC for the next two seasons,” commented Ryan. “Coach Stewart has a great winning tradition at Cape Fear and I want to ensure that continues.”
