WILMINGTON -- Thomas Wright was convicted of fraud earlier this week in Wake County. He may end up back in court a little closer to home.
On Monday former state Rep. Thomas Wright was found guilty of three of the four felony fraud charges that he was facing. He's already in jail, and for now he's at the Craven County Correctional Facility in Vanceboro.
Wright has to spend 23 hours a day in a cell all by himself.
NewsChannel 3 talked with District Attorney Ben David on Wednesday about Monday's Wright verdict. The district attorney says the sentencing, a prison term of six to eight years was appropriate.
Wright still has outstanding charges as well, some in Wake County and some in New Hanover County.
For now it's a waiting game for David: waiting on the appeals process and waiting to see if he needs to proceed further.
If Wright does not win his appeal state law requires him to serve at least 85 percent of his six to eight year sentence.

I think they gave him too much time. 2-3 years would have been plenty. Clogging the jails for white collar crime is senseless.
Wright was wrong
I am responding to the e-mail that said the jail time was too much. No it wasn't! This man violated the very position he was voted in to serve. He violated the public trust, yet alone his family's. My question is: will he have to pay the money back he stole? Sure hope so!!!!!!
