Follow-up on LA Weightloss closing without warning

Last night we told you about a local weight loss franchise that closed without warning.

Turns out it is not the only branch in the region to abruptly shut down. A branch in Jacksonville also closed this past week.

Clients were referred there after the nearby New Bern branch closed a few months ago.

Clients of the Wilmington location say the doors have been locked for a week.

Since we broke the story yesterday, a number of people called and e-mailed the newsroom to share their stories. Most said they are now out hundreds of dollars.

Yesterday, we found files with clients' personal information and social security numbers tossed in the dumpster outside.

Attorney David Ennis said, "What was done was done improperly, it was done illegally and I certainly think people should take measures to make sure this is remedied for them, and that it sends a message to the public or to private business owners."

Ennis says he is helping people in the area figure out how to get their money back.

We also found out from former employees today that the Wilmington branch was owned by Kelly Walsh of Rhode Island and at least two other partners from Nashville Tennessee.

WWAY has been trying to contact all three business owners for the past two days. None have returned phone calls.

Calls to the L.A. Weight Loss corporate office have also gone unreturned.

Attorney

Does anyone know how I can reach David Ennis since he is trying to find out how to get our money back?

I think this is the right

I think this is the right guy:

Firm: Ennis Law Firm, PC
Address: 8114 Market Street, Suite 300
Wilmington, NC 28411

Phone (primary): 910-681-0711

New Bern, Jacksonville....

I was a client at the New Bern Store up until Feb when I had to leave for Maturnity. The Center closed shortly after... I was then told to correspond with the Jacksonville store, which I did stating that I wanted a refund. They told me that it was processed and that it would take anywhere form 30 to 90 days. It has now gone pass the 90 day mark. The Jacksonville store is closed and Corp LA Weight loss claims that they are not responsible for these centers because they didn't receive any funds from them. I Want my money! What Am I suppose to do? Are there any other people out there that are trying to get some direct answers?

I was also a client at LA Weight Loss and probably like others I had paid all my money up front. I paid for a year supply of LA Bars that I guess I wil never get. The total of these bars was $1,000 for a year which was quite pricey. I was wondering who I could contact to get help?

Thanks

L.A. Weightloss closing

Thank goodness for the woman who had enought sense to check their dumpster and retrieve all the clients vital personsal information that if it had fallen into the wrong hands could have ended in many cases of identity theft.
