More than three hundred million people in 210 countries prayed together yesterday as part of the Global Day of Prayer.
Here in Wilmington, worshipers filled Myrtle Grove Presbyterian Church. The original location was Legion Stadium, but the rain forced the event to move indoors.
More than 5,000 people were expected to attend in Wilmington, so organizers were planning on overflow locations.
A committee of local pastors and others organized the two hour event, which was filled with singing and prayer.
"When you see the number of non-denominational, denominational, black, white, Spanish, all coming together, all ages, the choir is made up of over 100 people from all different churches, the flag banner group is all different churches coming together and it's really an exciting time," said Tom Hauser.
The Global Day of Prayer began in South Africa in 2000. This was the first year that it was held in Wilmington.
