Lightning strikes cause fires

Severe weather across the area has kept first responders busy the past few days.

On Saturday, Wilmington fire crews worked for the better part of an hour putting out a house fire caused by a lightning strike.

The call came in at about 6:45 Saturday evening.

The house is located at the corner of Shinn Creek Lane and Wescott. Lightning damaged the roof and some of the home's windows.

No one was at home at the time of the strike.

On Friday, a house on North Bend Road off Middle Sound Loop Road in Ogden. Fire officials say around 4:30, lightning struck a nearby tree, which then caught the house on fire. Nobody was home at the time; it is believed the homeowner is out of the country, and has been made aware of what happened.

Another lightning strike hit around the same time, and not too far away on Friday.

Fire officials say a house on Kauri Street in the Blue Point subdivision in Porters Neck was hit directly, which caused damage. The family was home at the time, but nobody was injured.
