A Wilmington man is attempting to sing his way to a world record and help a good cause in the process.
When WWAY asked Wilmington resident, Anthony Lawson why he was trying to break the world record for singing karaoke he said, "…see if I can."
The current Guinness world record stands at 38 and a half hours of continuous karaoke singing.
Lawson plans to put Wilmington on the map by topping that record by singing more than 40 hours.
His karaoke marathon started Sunday at 7 p. m., and he will break the record if he sings until 9 a. m. Tuesday.
With his buddy, Jeff Lee as the D.J., these two plan to take it all the way.
"I just knew that we could break that easy using Anthony Lawson, because I knew he had stamina like nobody I've ever seen," said Lee.
Anthony has been a karaoke master for the past twelve years, but he also decided to put his vocal skills toward a good cause by raising money to donate to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
"I wanted to raise as much money as possible. Don't tell anyone I really don't care if I break the record, just as long as we make a whole lot of money," said Lawson.
Even though the bar where he's singing is mostly empty, he still has one supporter in the audience.
Witness April Gooley said, "It's a cool record to have here in Wilmington, and for him to have that as his claim to fame for those 40 hours of karaoke."
With a little toe tapping, a drink of water, and of course a bathroom break, Anthony plans to hit that 40 hour record one note at a time.
Lawson has already raised more than $400 for charity.

Karaoke for Charity
I just wanted to say congratulations to Anthony Lawson for breaking the karaoke record for charity! That is really cool and really awesome. Being a HUGE karaoke fan myself and a believer in charities, I think it's great to incorporate the 2 things together for the common good. I myself was actually a part of a "Karaoke" type of charity function recently. I performed a Weird Al Yankovic type of song paraody, via Karaoke style for the benefit of Operation Feed. I did not raise as much money as Anthony did, nor did I sing as long as he did, but I had a lot of fun doing it. Feel free to check out my website if you would like a good laugh. Take care and congratualtions!
