Lowe's Motor Speedway owner to build drag strip

The owner of Lowe's Motor Speedway has received approval from a Concord city panel to build a drag strip near the speedway.

The planning and zoning commission in Concord unanimously approved the drag strip on property owned by Bruton Smith.

Back in October City Council voted to halt the $60 million project. Then, after Smith threatened to close the speedway and relocate it somewhere else in the Charlotte region the Council asked planning officials to consider rezoning the area so drag strips are allowed.
