RALEIGH -- North Carolina State University's top official says the school doesn't have enough money to pay a settlement to former first lady Mary Easley, who is appealing her contract termination.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Thursday that interim Chancellor Jim Woodward also said Easley certainly knew that her husband, former Gov. Mike Easley, pushed officials to hire her.

Mary Easley had gotten a five-year contract worth $850,000 to run a speaker series and create a public safety leadership center. A former N.C. State chancellor and provost have resigned amid disclosures about the job.

settlement?

Why the heck does she think she deserves a settlement? Other state employees making only $30k/yr. or so, don't get settlements if their contracts aren't renewed. If anything she should have to pay back the money she already received since she never really did anything to earn it!!

poor Mary

Wouldn't it be nice if every person who was laid off had enough money to appeal their termination. Most are just trying to get by.

Send both to jail would be

Send both to jail would be fine with me.

sleazy

Her greed seems to know no end. Just ask tax hike mike for an allowance.

Oink Oink

After feeding from the public trough for years, you would think both of them would be stuffed by now. I guess the Southport Marina was just an appetizer for these greediest of individuals. Hopefully we will never have to see their faces in this part of the state again.
