Do you think it should be tougher for senior citizens to get a drivers license?

SENIOR CITIZENS

My dad is 85 years old. He is an excellent driver. Age has nothing to do with how a person drives. I know young people who shouldn't be driving.

Young people Distracted by Phones

I'm totally in awe of people talking constantly on cell phones while driving. They drive slower/faster, make wild turns, don't watch where they're going, cut cars off. This is just bad or worse than the way some older people drive. I think all people have to pass a test in a device that simulates driving a car. There are a lot of people of all ages who drive carelessly .

Older people are the only

Older people are the only drivers out there who actually slow people down and don't drive like effing aholes. We all need to be more like them and not try to get somewhere fast where all the workers do when they get there is NOTHING or mess things up. Put more old people on the roads to slow life down for us. Life goes by too fast nowadays.

I absolutely agree with this

I absolutely agree with this law being put into place. Reaction time is much slower as you get older and statistics will show that most drivers even over the age of 70 have more accidents. Eyesights get dimmer, attention spans get shorter. We put so many things in place to make sure that young drivers are completely ready to take on the traffic in this town, we should also be making sure that when it becomes obvious that an older person is a danger on the road, steps should be put into place to restrict or even revoke their license.

senior driving

my sister and i have an 87 year old mother who is still driving. she and my sister both bank at the same location. the other day, my sister saw mom get into the car at the bank and pull out. while backing up, she ran over the shrubs. also, she has been nearly deaf for several years. we had to fight tooth and nail for her to agree to get hearing aids. she drove for years with very limited hearing. by the grace of God she was not killed nor did she kill an innocent driver. i am 57 yrs old this year. if i was that bad, believe me, i would not complain if i could not get my license renewed. we hear stories of people in their 70's and 80's who cause accidents because they mistake the brake for the gas etc. yes, older folks (75 and over) should have to submit to a test to determine if they are a danger behind the wheel. although it may be a hard thing to face, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Then it's your responsibility

Based on what you wrote it is your responsibility to ensure the saftey of the rest of us. Put you foot down. Your mom might not like it but I'm sure the rest of the motoring public would appreciate it.
