Let em roll!
These athletes deserve their day! It is good for people to be inspired to get healthy and seeing an ironman is an inspiring event. It is one day whiners....one day!
No major traffic issues
Due to business and personal commitments, I had to drive from Leland to various parts of Wilmington 3 times on Saturday and never got tied up in traffic. Any decent event, festival, or gathering that brings people to town who stay in hotels, eat in restaurants, buy gas, etc. is great for the local economy.
If you are so important or self absorbed that the possibility of a slight delay in traffic ruins your day, perhaps you did all of us a favor by taking your family away for the day.
The company doing traffic
The company doing traffic control "Smooth Traffic Control" needs to be investigated.
traffic snafu
I can't imagine why Wilmington and New Hanover county would allow anyone to tie up traffic in such a way. I hope the money that is brought into the community is as great as the amount that is being lost, because this year me, my family, and our money is going to Myrtle Beach for the day.
Boo Hoo
What a baby. Just another one of those people who like to complain about anything.
With more than 1,400 athletes taking part, from 38 states and 12 countries - not even counting the fans that came out and supported the athletes - I would assume it was well over your "spending spree" in Myrtle Beach.
Go cry a river elsewhere you whiny baby.
LOL
I was in town ALL DAY...drove everywhere I needed to go...even down 421...and guess what...I saw the bikes and runners and didn't have one single problem. Your just being silly.
There are plenty of places
There are plenty of places these runners could go and not have any adverse impact on traffic. Why not go to the airport and knock themselves out doing laps around the runway? They wouldn't bother anybody there. It works for NASCAR.
Really? Airport?
So you think 1400 athletes swimming 2.4m, biking 112m and running 20+ miles can take place at the airport? You have got to be kidding. Logic and common sense says that is not possible. Obviously you lack both attributes but can sure whine. Get over it. It was an awesome event and a great boost to our local businesses.
It could be done at the
It could be done at the airport. Running and biking on a closed circuit with the Cape Fear River not too far away for the swimming part.
You don't get it
Wrong on so many levels. The Cape Fear River is hardly close to the airport in tri terms. And a closed circuit? We're talking about 1500 bikes and rules that prohibit drafting. (Just to give you an idea... some shorter triathlons have up to 2000 bikes on a 12 mile course... yes TWELVE MILES...and that is dicey from a safety standpoint.) And then what's left to run on?
If anyone was dumb enough to actually adopt your idea, thousands of potential November tourists would take their racing...and their money... out of Wilmington.
One day a year people... get over yourselves!
