Easley: Presidential contenders should say more about education

RALEIGH (AP) -- Gov. Mike Easley says he's not ready to endorse a presidential candidate because he wants to hear more about their education plans.

The Democratic governor said Tuesday he would love to hear more from the candidates on their plans to educate the nation's work force, such as proposals to lower the cost of education.

Easley is one of 13 uncommitted superdelegates from North Carolina who could help decide the party nominee. Three state superdelegates have endorsed Illinois Sen. Barack Obama while one
has endorsed New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Several other North Carolina superdelegates had previously endorsed former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards.

Superdelegates make up about 20 percent of the party's delegation at its summer convention. They are comprised mostly of elected officials and party insiders.
