Office workers destroy printer

WHITEVILLE -- Can you remember a time the fax machine broke, or the copy machine got jammed for the umteenth time? A local company tried to get even with the malfunctioning machines just in time for Administrative Professionals Day.

We've all thought about taking a sledgehammer to office fax and copy machines when they act up. Wednesday, some ladies in Whiteville did just that. Ruth Ward was one of them.

Ward said, "Some of the times that I'm in a hurry and need to be doing this and that, and just couldn't get there, so it was a good way to get back at it."

Owner and President of Interim Health Care Steve Smith started this tradition a few years ago after hearing about a company that pushed copy machines off sky scrapers. Since Whitesville doesn't have tall buildings he decided this was second best.

Smith said, "Yes, people seem pretty eager to get back at that copy machine that jammed up on them last year."

Once these ladies were finished with it, the copy machine was unusable for sure.

Just to be safe all participants had to wear goggles and a helmet before they whacked away.

Each hit cost $1, the proceeds going to the office technology program at Southeastern Community College.

For all those nine to fives these ladies have put in at interim health care, this was a day to recognize their hard work.

The employees were also treated to lunch and given gifts to let them know how much the company appreciates their help.
