Pender County Relay for Life

Hampstead -- Almost two weeks ago, six-year-old Emily Hollis lost her battle with cancer. Saturday, dozens of children celebrated Emily's life, while raising cancer awareness at the Pender County Relay for Life.

"It would be a lot better if she were here." Jackson Moore remembers the last time he saw Emily, and says this is the best way to remember her.

"I'm coming here for Emily, right before my baseball game, because the last time I saw her was Halloween at her Halloween party right across the street from her house, and I'm coming out today to support her."

Emily's team wore T-shirts decorated with a picture she drew before she died. The Topsail High School track was a sea of blue. Friends said Emily was a real inspiration to all of them.

Some Relay participants spent the night in tents while others just kept walking to raise money for Cancer research and awareness about the disease.

"It makes me feel pretty proud that my friends and family can do this for Emily, and fight for cancer." Participants hope with each foot forward they're one step closer to finding a cure.
