Should We Be There

Should we be in the Mid East? There is no easy answer. The US has always been involved in world affairs--look at WWI and WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, so on and so on.
And we've been in the Mid East for decades already with military bases and the works.
Now that part of the world is a hot spot--
big money, oil, military threats, terror threats, so on and so on.
Should we be there? No easy answer. Any one who thinks so, isn't thinking

He sounds like he's from my

He sounds like he's from my part of the country. Many Americans think it's a mistake to be there, but if we don't get involved in world affairs, then we fall behind. Everyone in this country wants the benfits, like gas in their cars, without the work or sacrifice.

Beware of naivete my friend.

Beware of naivete my friend. The difference between getting involved in world affairs and dominating or precipitating them is as vast as the Pacific Ocean.

It's important for us to be in Afhanistan from the perspective of U.S. national security and guiding the Afghans as they develop their government and national identity. We have a tremendous amount of know-how that we can give these people, and an obligation to do so.

I'm pretty sure that most of the people in this country recognize the sacrifices that are being made by our service people around the world so that we can enjoy the "fruits of their labor." More people every day are beginning to wonder, however, if the benefits are worth the sacrifices being made by the soldiers and their families.

Pagano

I met Jack Pagano a couple of times when he was News Director at your station. I enjoyed his direct take on things, different than what you usually get here.
I liked his video work on our troops in that dangerous part of the world.

Our Soldiers

I never stopped to think how the American bases would operate there. It was interesting to see where our troops live and work. We have many good men from our nearby Marine base, and also from South Carolina, helping to train these inexperinced Afghans.
Mr. Pagano made a big transition from city newsman to Afghan correspondent. But he seems dedicated by reporting to our area every week.
