A Wilmington Police Officer is recovering after being hospitalized for minor injuries this weekend.

A police spokesperson says Officer T.R. Williams was looking into a call about fireworks around 2:30 a.m. Saturday when a large crowd attacked him on the sidewalk outside Club Gentleman on Grace Street.

Port City Pub Owner Ed Sinram, said, "We don't want anyone to get hurt, patrons, police officers...It's unfortunate what happened, and no one knows what happened."

Officer Williams was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released. No arrests have been made in the case.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call the Wilmington Police Department at 343-3600.
