Executives at Screen Gems Studios call it their "dream stage". Today, the studio announced that dream will come true.
Screen Gems has plans to build the largest film and television production stage on the east coast on their lot here in Wilmington.
The stage will be more than 37,000 square feet and include a 3,600 square foot water tank.
Studio executive vice president Bill Vassar says Screen Gems will now be able to accommodate big budget films.
"I think it gives us an opportunity as a city to move into the next level of film and television production," said Vassar.
Vassar says higher production budgets mean more money spent in the local economy.

Tribute to Frank Capra, Jr
I would like to think of this ground breaking new stage, which will take Wilmington to a top production level on the East Coast, as a tribute to the late Frank Capra, Jr. He did so much for the city of Wilmington, as well as the industry. And he did it with a special style full of warmth and enthusiasm.
I agree with you. I think
I agree with you. I think they should name the new stage after Mr. Capra.
