BOSTON (AP) -- Cam Ward turned back 19 shots and Eric Staal scored the lone goal in Carolina's 1-0 verdict over the Bruins in Boston.

Ward earned his third shutout of the season and helped the Hurricanes win for only the third time in eight games. Ward preserved the victory while the Bruins played with a six-on-four skating advantage over the final 17.3 seconds left.

Tim Thomas made 27 saves for the Bruins but allowed Staal's goal early in the second period.
