The Topsail Pirates named Jeff Gainey as their new head basketball coach Thursday afternoon. Gainey is a former head coach at South View High School. Gainey replaces Rodney Orr.

The Topsail High School baseball team lost 6-2 on Friday to South Stanly in game one of a best of 3 series for the 1-A state title. On Saturday South Stanly won 7-2 to claim the state championship.

Topsail High School will be playing in Greensboro when they face Cherryville for the state 1-A baseball title this weekend.
