Hundreds of wahines took to the beach this weekend for what has become an east coast surfing tradition. The 13th Annual East Coast Wahine Championships were held at Wrightsville Beach.
The contest is the only one on the east coast to feature all female surfers.

There are renewed concerns about proposed surf zones at Wrightsville Beach after a drowning there on Friday. Twenty-four-year-old Robert Kreager drowned near Augusta Street.

The weather is warming up and the beaches are getting packed. That has town leaders at Wrightsville Beach once again thinking about changes to the surf zone rules. For years surfers at Wrightsville Beach have dealt with a rotating surf zone that changes day to day.
