The Town of Oak Island is getting sued, again. The widow of the former town attorney has filed suit against Oak Island and its former chief building inspector, for negligence.
Karen Edwards and other plaintiffs allege that inspector Fred Fulcher regularly approved construction projects that did not comply with code, and his actions favored certain builders.
The lawsuit claims the town failed to remove Fulcher from his position after being notified of problems with his work. Fulcher resigned in February after 7 years with the town.
Oak Island was recently sued by a developer who claims the town failed to release public records, and by a group of Long Beach Road residents who are fighting annexation.

The Yaupon Years
Since a child, I remembered that area as a nice, quit place to fish, visit and live. My family has owned property across the waterway for generations. Since it was discovered and plundered by the developers and youts guys from up north, the property values were inflated for greed and tax porposes, people are bickering and fighting for control over it and it has lost it's charm. I stay as far away from it as I can now. I'm sure that's what youts guys want anyway since your take over. Good luck with what you've turned it into, keep fighting.
