About Me

Hailey Winslow joined WWAY in November 2008, as NewsChannel 3’s iDesk Reporter.

She was born in Houston and has moved ten times, spending most of her life in Georgia and all across Florida. She’s a huge Gator fan, so high school at Oak Hall School in Gainesville was a blast. She studied Broadcast Journalism and Spanish at the University of Central Florida in Orlando and graduated May 2008. Hailey covered news and sports as a reporter for The Knightly News, UCF’s student-run news show. She gained experience interning at Central Florida News 13, the Orlando Predators Arena Football, ESPN, and the national morning show, The Daily Buzz. She made life-long friends as a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Her favorite part of college was football game-days and shaking the stands senior year when the UCF Knights finally got a football stadium on campus!

Hailey took Spanish classes at la Universidad de Alcalá in Spain. She backpacked around Europe for six weeks and daringly participated in the “Running of the Bulls” in Pamplona, Spain. With 42 bucks in her pocket, she decided it was time to return to the States.

Hailey favorite pastime is sailing. Many favorite family vacations included boat trips to the Islands, battling high seas and dangerous storms. Her parents run a sailing charter business in the Outer Banks called “The Downeast Rover”. They take people on two-hour tours to experience Roanoke Island’s beautiful weather and wildlife under sail. Hailey used to hoist the sails as first mate on the tall ship.

Hailey is happiest near the ocean. Along with sailing, she enjoys surfing, wakeboarding, and going to the beach. One day, she and her family hope to sail around the world together.

She absolutely adores animals and grew up with horses, goats, and a 250-pound pot-bellied pig named Chelsea. She also has a passion for sports (especially Gator football!). As a competitive gymnast for twelve years, she retired just before college to enjoy herself and focus on her studies. Senior year of high school, she played a few other sports, briefly holding her school’s pole vaulting record and becoming the first-ever diver at the private school. She loves doing anything active and adventurous.

The most important thing in Hailey’s life is her family. Her parents, dog, and cat live in the Outer Banks. Her sister Megan lives in West Palm Beach, Florida.
