Wilmington detectives have lead in year-old murder case

WILMINGTON -- On March 31, 2007, Ronald Conyers Jr. was found shot to death in an alley near 16th and Nun Streets.

Samantha Buchanon, his mother, is still trying to cope with the loss of her son. "I've never felt this kind of pain where the pain never goes away". One year has passed and she's still hoping investigators will find his killer. "I can hear him in my mind saying ma' we gotta keep going, we gotta keep going".

Police discoverd Conyers's body just a few blocks from where he lived. Police are still seaching for clues. Detective D.T. Moore believes that neighbors are key to cracking the case. He said, "I believe they saw something, whether they saw the shooting, whether they saw someone carrying the body to where it was found, it was out in the open it was in the daytime, somebody had to see something."

Moore says his team is confident they will find Conyers's killer. They are looking for at least three people who may know something.

In the meantime, Conyers's mother urges anyone who knows something to come forward. After a year of waiting she's ready to know the answer to the question that still agonizes her today. "I just want to know who," she said. "I don't think the why would matter at this point..."
